2006 Pavillon Blanc Du Ch. Margaux 75CL
TASTING NOTES:
Wine Rating: RP 94 points Drink by: 2016 - 2026 The 2006 Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux has always been one of the pinnacle white releases from this First Growth and at ten years of age, I have no reason to change my mind. It has an exquisite bouquet of lemon curd, orange scents, and a touch of praline that is very delineated and focused. The palate exhibits fine balance with hints of crème fraiche, almond, and even a cheeky dab of marzipan. Funnily enough, it is difficult imagining that this is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and in fact, there is something almost Burgundy-like about this Pavillon Blanc (as I suggested in my barrel tasting note). Irrespective of origin, what it constitutes is a damn glorious white Bordeaux that comes highly recommended. So much so, I would drink this now rather than later. Tasted January 2016. |
Since the 17th Century, the first wine of Château Margaux has been recognised as being one of the greatest wines in the entire world. It owes its unique qualities to the genius of its terroir as well as to the passionate work of a succession of generations.
White wine production at Château Margaux goes back to the end of the XVII century. The cellar master at that time recounts how he was one of the first to separate the white grapes from the red during the vinification.
Sold in the XIX century under the name, Château Margaux Vin de Sauvignon, it has existed under the brand name, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux, since 1920 and its label has not changed since that date.
