2022 Cos D'Estournel Blanc 75CL
TASTING NOTES:
Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, it's framed by delicate dry extracts and a phenolic, elegant bitterness enhanced by oaky notes, culminating in a long, saline and ethereal finish. |
"KEEN, POWERFUL, IMPETUOUS
The power of the elements.
Unique in character, Cos d’Estournel Blanc evokes the coolness of sea spray and salty sea winds whipping one’s face while also conjuring the warmth and richness of the land. A generous, lively wine, it brings to mind a slice of bread spread thickly with quince jam, a sun-drenched stall of autumn fruit or sudden recollections of the sweetest summer moments."
The Maharajah of Saint-Estephe, Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, the founder of the estate, was filled with curiosity about and openness to the world around him. His pursuit of new markets led him to Asia, where British officers stationed in India would begin savoring his wine as early as 1838.
"This interest in overseas markets fueled a passion for faraway places that would serve as inspiration for the singular architecture of his estate, a sumptuous palace dedicated to wine, topped with monumental pagodas. Louis Gaspard d’Estournel would remain an enigmatic and original figure amongst his peers. This, coupled with his obsession for the foreign and the exotic, would earn him the nickname of Maharajah of Saint-Estephe."
