The 2014 Moulin St Georges has a surprisingly Burgundy-like bouquet with ample red cherry and wild strawberry scents on the nose, hints of persimmon, then later warm gravel. I appreciate the definition here, although it is tightly wound at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe red cherry and strawberry fruit, what you might describe as a straightlaced Moulin St Georges that keeps its cards close to its chest. Give this two or three years in bottle. I would like to see this Saint Emilion just loosen its tie a bit.

Chateau Moulin Saint Georges has a long history in the Saint Emilion appellation. However, the modern era for the estate starts in 1921 when it was purchased by the Vauthier family. The 7-hectare, Right Bank vineyard of Chateau Moulin Saint Georges is planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The terroir of Chateau Moulin Saint Georges is clay over limestone soils with western exposures. The vines are on average, 25 years of age. The vineyard is planted to a vine density of 5,500 vines per hectare. The vineyard has gentle slopes that rise up to 25 meters in elevation. On average, Chateau Moulin Saint Georges produces close to 3,000 cases of wine per year.
