2012 Siran 150CL
TASTING NOTES:
The palate is medium-bodied with fine, gently grippy tannin, and graphite-tinged black fruit that turns spicier towards the finish, which displays commendable substance and persistence - a 2012 Margaux with ambitions. This is a very fine Siran, much better than many of the wines produced in the 1990s and it comes recommended. Tasted February 2016. |
Located in the southernmost commune of Margaux, Château Siran is one of the Medoc's great historic estates. Belonging to the Maihle family since 1859, Edouard is the 5th generation of the family to lead the estate a tradition quite rare in the wine properties of Bordeaux. He brings with him youthful energy and a team of new, young winemakers dedicated to enhancing and perpetuating the Château's fine reputation.
Practicing environmentally responsible viticulture since the 2000s, the estate goes further by using organic products and drastically reducing the use of phytosanitary products, now limited to the sole fight against powdery mildew and downy mildew. Siran benefits from 88 hectares of an ecosystem favored by an environment of woods, meadows, and ponds, along with an orchard bordering a vineyard of 25 hectares of which they take care to maintain biodiversity.
