Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Potensac surpassed my expectations from the barrel, because as I stated back then, it has developed more flesh to counterbalance those prenatal hard tannins. It has an attractive if unspectacular raspberry, strawberry, and tobacco-scented bouquet, quite closed at first, opaque, but opening with several minutes in the glass.
The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe blackberry fruit laced with tobacco and sea salt. I appreciate the finish here. There is a satisfying substance, a gentle grip, and a classic pencil lead, almost Pauillac-like finish. Enjoy this upstanding Médoc from Jean-Hubert Delon over the next 10-12 years. Tasted January 2016.

Château Potensac, located in the appellation of Medoc between the villages of Blaignan and Ordannac, has been owned by the family Delon, who are also owners of Château Leoville-Las Cases, since 1870.

Planted on the best quality soils in the Ordonnac district, the vineyards now extend over 60 hectares on a terroir where the typical characteristics of each grape variety express themselves very distinctly and give the wine superb ageing potential. Since 2003, the Château has been classified as Cru Bourgeois, and the wines of Château Pontensac are as well known for their high quality.
