My rating may be too conservative, as the 1998 is showing as well as any La Tour-Haut-Brion from the nineties. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by sweet aromas of black currants intermixed with tobacco, cedar, and spice box.
The wine is beautifully pure, rich, medium-bodied, with sweet tannin and well-integrated acidity as well as wood.

In 1900, Château La Tour Haut Brion belonged to Victor Coustau who also owned the neighboring estate, Château La Mission Haut Brion. Its wines were produced in the cellars of La Mission Haut Brion.

After the ownership of Mr. Coustau, the Château was sold to the Woltner family and eventually became the property of Domaine Clarence Dillon, together with La Mission Haut Brion and Château Haut Brion. However, starting with vintage 2006, La Tour Haut Brion was no longer produced and was incorporated into Domaine Clarence Dillon’s other wines.
