2014 Fonbel 75CL
TASTING NOTES:
Wine Rating: RP 89 points Drink by: 2020 - 2028 The 2014 Fonbel, from the Famille Vauthier of Ausone, has a pretty bouquet with fragrant red berry fruit laced with peony and potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannin. There is moderate weight in the mouth, a Château de Fonbel that is classic in style and whilst some might hanker for a little more flesh on the finish, I appreciate the focus and tension in this wine. Drink over the next four or five years. |
"Château Fonbel has a long, ancient history that dates all the way back to the times when the ancient Romans were active in St. Emilion cultivating grapes for wine.
In 1971, Alain Vauthier purchased Château Fonbel. The Vauthier family are of course better known for owning the famous estate, Château Ausone as well as Château Moulin St. Georges in Saint-Emilion.
The vineyard is located at the bottom of a slope on almost flat land, not too far from Château Ausone, Château Moulin St. Georges or the picturesque village of Saint-Emilion."
