2018 Marquis de Calon Segur 75CL
TASTING NOTES: Wine Rating: RP 92-94 points Drink by: N/A The 2018 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur is a blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Sauvignon (14.9% alcohol). It is anticipated to age for 17 months in barriques, 30% new. Deep purple-black in color, it gives up opulent scents of Indian spices, menthol and plum preserves with a core of crème de cassis, baked cherries and raspberry pie plus a hint of sandalwood. Big, rich, full-bodied and voluptuously fruited in the mouth, it has bags of black fruit preserves and exotic spices with a firm, plush frame, finishing long with a minty lift. Definitely one for the hedonists! |
Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur is the 2nd wine of Château Calon Ségur, third classified growth in 1855.
"Perhaps because it is one of the oldest estates in the Medoc, or perhaps because its most emblematic owner, the Marquis de Segur, built an absolute legend around Calon.
Historians date the origins of Calon back to the Gallo-Roman era. Its name comes from “calones”, which referred to small crafts navigating on the Gironde’s estuary. While wine production can be traced back to the 12th century, it was in the 18th century, with the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur, also the owner of Latour, Lafite and Mouton, that the finest chapter of the property’s history was written. In the centuries that followed, Calon was to become Calon Segur."
