Château Prieure Lichine is classified as 4th growth and is located in the appellation of Margaux. Alexis Lichine took over Château Prieure-Cantenac in 1951, and renamed it with his name, Prieure-Lichine.
He originated from Russia and moved to France when he was four years old during the Revolution in 1917. He led an intriguing life of fascination and is credited for establishing the French wine in the American market.
Lichine dedicated himself to perfecting his wines and was later known as the “Pope of Wine” because of his intuition, knowledge and charisma as a masterful wine entrepreneur. In 1987, Decanter magazine voted him “Man of the Year.”
