2018 La Closerie de Fourtet 75CL
TASTING NOTES: |
"In 1983, the Lurton family introduced a second wine, “Domaine de Martialis”, made from the youngest grape varieties to ensure that the finest qualities of the terroir were reserved for their first wine, Clos Fourtet, Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion.
In 2001, Philippe Cuvelier acquired the vineyard. Significant investments were then made to refurbish the cellar, including the installation of around twenty thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. The second wine was renamed “Closerie de Fourtet”. The terroir has since been treated with greater care and respect after the old vines were uprooted, allowing the soil a longer period of vegetative rest for regeneration. Philippe’s son, Matthieu, with the guidance of top specialists such as Tony Ballu, Daniel Alard, and Stéphane Derenoncourt, gradually transitioned the vineyard towards sustainable cultivation, even experimenting with biodynamics in certain plots, in attempts to elevate and maintain this wine in its rightful place, that is to say towards the summits."
