The 2016 Le Nardian is a blend of 40% Sémillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Muscadelle, fermented in 50% new French oak. It opens with warm apricots, baked apples, guava and spiced pears notions with hints of allspice, fresh hay and baking bread. Medium-bodied with a satiny texture, it has a lovely, savory restraint in the mouth, with great freshness, finishing long and spicy.
Le Nardian is the product of a wager between the now-retired Consulting Oenologue, Gilles Pauquet (also consultant to Châteaux Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and Canon), and Jonathan Maltus that a low cropped white would see similar benefits to a red wine. The first wine was produced in 2000, and it continues to sell out.
Le Nardian is an atypical Bordeaux dry white wine made up of 40% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillon, and 20% Muscadelle. The vines are situated on a perfect clay-over-limestone soil/terroir just south of the Dordogne River, at the village of Lugaignac. The aspect is a full-on south facing slope.
