It is made by Tenuta dell'Ornellaia located in the vaunted Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Masseto was first released in 1986 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the world's most sought after and considered one of the most famous Super Tuscan wines.

Among the first people to realize the potential of the great terroir of the Masseto hill was the great Russian-American oenologist, André Tchelistcheff, who contributed to the conception of Masseto in the early 1980s. From the beginning of the harvest to the release of Masseto, three intense years pass, marked by respect of nature and time, constant attention to detail and careful winemaking decisions that best express and respect Masseto's character. The objective for winemaker Axel Heinz is to express both the unmistakable personality of Masseto and the specific character of the vintage.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/4100/6465/products/Masseto200675CL_212854b3-e3c3-45a9-ae1a-0b0b3a9da74a.png?v=1590583443
2007-valandraud-75cl
2007 Valandraud 75CL

TASTING NOTES:

Wine Rating: RP 92 points
Drink by: 2017 - 2030

Tasted blind at the Valandraud vertical at the property, the 2007 Valandraud was a big surprise given that this is supposed to be an off-vintage. It has a rounded and opulent bouquet, especially considering the growing season, with quite precocious kirsch, mulberry and cassis scents interlaced with cigar box and smoke aromas. You ask yourself whether there is any Cabernet Franc here and the answer is none - the 2007 is 100% Merlot.
The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, precise and elegant with wild strawberry and raspberry fruit that is seamlessly integrated with the oak. Considering this is a 2007, this is just a beautifully crafted wine that is probably à point, though shows absolutely no sign of any decline. Château Valandraud was born in 1991 on vineyard bought with all the couple's savings. This small vineyard is situated in the Fongaban Valley, in the Pavie Macquin / La Clotte neighbourhood and this is where 'Valandraud' comes from: 'Val' (Valley) + 'Andraud (Murielle's family name, which appears on the Saint Emilion's registry since 1459).

Excellence is also reached by combining tradition, innovation and respect of the environment. This is the way they have chosen to work for now over 10 years, paving the way to what is now better known as 'biocontrol'. Each vintage is the sum of all the dedication and hard work done by a whole team to offer you the best of its abilities. Château Valandraud has thus earned kudos from both professional critics and amateurs. The wine is regularly acclaimed for its harmonious complexity, its depth and intensity, but also for its display of fruit, its freshness, velvety texture and finesse.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/4100/6465/collections/WSON_Product_Categories_1_Red_Wine.png?v=1634635459
